Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into therapeutic points along the body. These needles serve to stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability, to correct any imbalances and to restore the body to a healthy equilbrium.

The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run through the body and over its surface. They can be compared to rivers flowing through the body to cleanse, nourish the tissues, and provide the body with energy. It is similar to how blood and oxygen flows through our veins and arteries and impulses flow through our nerves. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that can cause stagnation and imbalance.

We correct this imbalance through the use of acupuncture needles and various ancillary techniques. Acupuncture treatments help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians, as well as correcting any symptoms that arise with these underlying imbalances.

We also combine ancillary techniques such as cupping, Gua Sha, and Moxibustion to make our treatments more effective.

Modern Theories

The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system. The treatment also increases blood flow and improved circulation to the area. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, immune system, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.
